Delmar, Maryland is a town situated in Wicomico County along the Delaware and Maryland state borders. It is part of the Salisbury Metropolitan Statistical Area which is located in the Eastern Shore region of Maryland. In 2014, Delmar had a population of about 3,000 according to the United States Census Bureau.
The history of Delmar, Maryland dates back to 1859 when the Delaware Railroad was extended to the southern boundary of Delaware, north of Delmar. Estate owners Elijah Freeney and Winder Hastings granted right-of-way to the railroad and donated land for a depot. Afterward, Freeney laid out the small town and constructed a house and store. Delmar grew and the rail line continued construction southward. Many employees settled in the town and in 1888, Delmar became incorporated.

Young students attend the Delmar Elementary School which is under the jurisdiction of the Wicomico County Board of Education. The mission of the Delmar Police Department is to work with all residents to preserve and to maintain human rights, protect property, and to promote individual responsibility and commitment to the community.
